Last summer, Lawrence Peryer, a long-time digital media advisor to David Bowie, met with the team working on rolling out what would be the star’s final album, “Blackstar.” “The notion came up that David had challenged everyone in figuring out how Instagram or Snapchat might be used for this project,” Peryer says. “He thought it would be an interesting way to reach younger people or a new user base…The goal of the series is to tell short stories utilizing Instagram’s video abilities — which are limited to just 15 seconds. Peryer knew Borges and 31-year-old Queens-based writer Carolynn Cecilia, and suggested to Bowie’s team that they consider this as a unique offering. “David had always been interested in reaching new people,” Peryer says. “I think in the last couple years, it’s been difficult for most artists to get outside the echo-chamber of your basic constituency.”
